Spending Christmas in Historic Bethlehem

Most of the Western world celebrates Christmas even though Jesus was born in the East. However, this does not matter for Christians because what matters most is their faith. To get a glimpse of what it looks like to be in the land where Jesus was born, tourists who are having their travel christmas prefer to visit Bethlehem in Israel. Being Jesus’ birthplace, the city is inhabited by the oldest Christian community in the world. Bethlehem means the “House of Bread” and it is the food that a significant part in Jesus’ last hours on earth.

Tourism in Bethlehem peaks during Christmas season when Christian pilgrim and tourists flock to the area to pay respect to the head of the Christian church. The church of the nativity is the focus of this yearly activity. Other attractions in the city include shopping for Palestinian handicrafts, embroidery, mother-of-pearl carving, museums, and cultural centers.
